Hepatitis SA was started by a volunteers in 1993 as the Hepatitis C Council of SA, and volunteers continue to play an important role in three main areas in the organisation.

Volunteer work

Hepatitis SA volunteers work in the following areas:

  • Hepatitis SA Helpline
  • Filling orders for printed information
  • Sharing hepatitis C lived experience at education and training sessions (Positive speaker program)

Time commitment

Time commitment varies depending on the duties. For Hepatitis SA Helpline work and resource room work, you will need to commit to a minimum of four hours a week regularly for six to 12 months.

What about training?

Training will be provided to all volunteers. For some positions, successful completion of training is required before you can be appointed to the job. All volunteer positions are supervised.

How do I apply?

Contact us or fill in our online expression of interest form. The relevant coordinator will contact you to discuss your application and take it further if appropriate. Your application will be considered by the relevant staff against the position(s) you've expressed interest in. You may then be invited to a meeting with the coordinator.

All volunteer placements are subject to a three-month trial period.

Equal opportunity

Hepatitis SA is committed to equal opportunity in employment. We do not discriminate on grounds of race, gender, physical or intellectual abilities, sexuality, marital status, religious or political beliefs or health status that is irrelevant to the work being applied for. People with viral hepatitis are encouraged to apply for paid and volunteer positions.
